The Hooker Law Office
The Hooker Law Office
Hooker Law office established in 1850.
Eli Hooker moved to Wisconsin from Ithica NY in 1848. He spent 2 years in Fond du lac working as a printer before moving to Waupun in 1850. Here he opened a print shop and Law practice which passed from generation to generation and was the longest continuously operating law office in Wisconsin up until it closed in 1982.
This building along with the adjacent property to the east (near where the Napa now stands) all belonged to the Hooker estate. When the house was dismantled and moved, its beautiful fence was also moved.
The next time you pass Forest Mound Cemetery slow down and take a closer look at the wrought iron fencing. This is the fence, which spanned the entire front yard along Main street. Mindful of preserving it for future generations, the fence was donated by the Hooker family to the Forest Mound preservation foundation in 1889.
